 Brief Information about the organization:
Silk Farmers’ Union is a non-governmental sectoral union of legal and natural persons occupied in silk farming. At present 35 legal persons are united in the union, four plants, one selective station (in Telavi), one experimental farming of silk (in Khoni) and 30 branches of joint stock organization “Silkregion’ among them. 750 families are joined there who are occupied in silk farming at present. About 1500 families are associate members. The main aim of the union is to rehabilitate traditional field of silk farming for Georgia. Union objectives are:
- To restore ancient traditions of manufacturing natural silk using modern technology;
- Create technical and scientific bases for silk-farming development;
- Support genofunds of existing mulberry trees and silkworms.
- Support legal members of the union to overcome the crisis of moving to market economy and developing small and medium-sized enterprises.
- To employ wide population of villages in silk farming.
- Create the image of silk-farming country for Georgia in the world and attract investors.
